American sloop USS Sacramento temporarily anchored off Vlissingen, Netherlands bound for Antwerp, Belgium according to the Dutch newspaper Nieuwe Courant van Den Helder dated 23 July 1864

An item dated Den Helder, Netherlands the 22nd referred to tidings received from Vlissingen (1) dated the 18th that there a day earlier the USS Sacramento (1) anchored on the roads and departing that morning to Antwerp, Belgium. She chased without success for more as a year the CSS Alabama which latter finally destroyed by the USS Kearsage.

1. The Dutch newspaper Zierikzeesche Courant dated 23 July 1864 reported her arrival on the 18th at Antwerp where she would stay for some days. She left 14 days earlier Cherbourg, France to cruise in the North Sea. Described as a frigate, a length of 247’, 10 guns, a crew of 230 men and a horsepower of 500 hp. She lacked her bowsprit while her bow was under water fitted out with a strong device for destroying ships. The Zierikzeesche Nieuwsbode called her a iron built ram or corvette commanded by commodore Todd. The edition dated the 27th reported her passing Vlissingen in the afternoon of the 15th.
2. Launched on 28 April 1862 at the Portsmouth Navy Yard, Kittery, Main, USA, commissioned on 7 January of the next year and finally on 19 June 1867 grounded and wrecked. With a displacement of 2.100 long tons/2.100 tons and as dimensions 69,95 x 2,69 x 5,05 metres or 229’6” x 38’x 8’10’, speed 12,5 knots, a crew numbering 161 men and an armament of 1-150 pd rifled gun, 2-11”/28cm smooth bore guns, 1 rifled 30pd gun,2-24pd howitzers, 2 rifled 12pd guns and 2-12 smoothbore guns.
