American whaler Japan lying at sea on 17th June according to the Whalemen’s Shipping List dated Tuesday 19 July 1859

A letter written by captain Grant on board of the Japan of New Bedford on 17th June while at sea 45.80 latitude 31 degrees west longitude reported everything well on board. Just 4 days at sea was her catch 22 barrels sperm whale oil.(1)
