Dutch screw steamship 1st class Zr.Ms. Metalen Kruis bound for the Netherlands according to the Dutch newspaper Nederlandsche staatscourant dated 5 February 1867


An item referred to tidings dated 15th December 1866 dealing with the movements of the ships belonging to the Dutch squadron in the Dutch East Indies. The Dutch screw steamship 1st class Zr.Ms. Metalen Kruis captain Lieutenant A.L. Palm was nearly fitted out for returning to the Netherlands.

Screw steamship 1st class also called frigate, call sign GQNT, wood-built, laid down at the navy yard at Amsterdam 21 March 1860, launched 29 July 1862, ex-Soerabaja renamed 1863, commissioned 17 September 1863, building costs ƒ 752.588,82, condemned 3 September 1878, dimensions 58,00 (between perpendiculars) x 12,25 x 5,50 metres, a displacement of 2.030 tons, horsepower 700 hp, speed 8,5 knots, an armament of 16 guns (8 long 30pd, 8 rifled 16cm) and a crew numbering 225 men.
