Australia decreasing her fleet considerably according to the Dutch newspaper Bataviaasch nieuwsblad dated 24 September 1920

An item dated Sydney, Australia 24th reported that the Australian naval budget pointed out an important decrease of the commissioned ships consisting of 6 submarines, 6 destroyers, 2 guard vessels, a light cruiser and a training ship. The remaining 11 ships including the battle cruiser HMAS Australia (1) were to be laid up. What definitive was to be done with those ships depended on the outcomes of the imperial conference planned next year [20 June-5 August 1921].

Her building was ordered on (9 December 1909 at the yard of John Brown&Company at Clydebank with building number 402, laid down on 26 June 1910, launched on 25 October 1911, commissioned on 21 June 1913, decommissioned on 12 December 1921 and scuttled on 12 April 1924. Part of the British Indefatigable-class.
