Australian cruiser Australia returning to England leaving the HMS Sussex behind according to the Dutch magazine Marineblad 1934 no. 7


An item referred to the magazine R.U.S.I. dated November 1934 reporting that the Australian cruiser Australia (1) in begin 1935 via the Panama Canal was destined for England, the HMS Sussex stayed behind.(2)

1. Part of the British County-class Kent subclass heavy cruisers, together with her sister ship HMAS Canberra. Building ordered in 1924, laid down by John Brown and Company, Clydebank, Scotland on 26 August 1925, launched on 17 March 1927, commissioned on 24 April 1928, decommissioned on 31 August 1954 and sold to the British Iron&Steel Corporation (Salvage) to be broken up on 25 January 1955 which was done at the Thos W. Ward’s Shipbreaking Yard, Barrow-in-Furness, England in 1956.
2. Laid down at R. and W. Hawthorn, Leslie and Company Limited, Hebburn-on-Tyne, England on 1 February 1927, launched on 22 February 1928, commissioned on 19 March 1920 and breaking up begun on 23 February 1950. London-subclass of the County-class heavy cruisers.
