Chile not interested in selling battleship Almirante Latorre according to the magazine Mitteilungen aus dem Gebiete des Seewesens dated 1913 No. 3


An item reported that the Chilean admiralty unanimous rejected the enquiry of an European power which desired to buy the Chilean battleship Almirante Latorre which was still under construction.(1)

Laid down at the Armstrong Whitworth shipyard, Elswick, England on 27 November 1911, launched on 27 November 1913, acquired by England on 9 September 1914, commissioned as the HMS Canada on 15 October 1915, decommissioned in March 1919, sold to Chile and retaining her original name in April 1920, commissioned in the Chilean navy on 1 August 1920, modernized 1929-1931, decommissioned in October 1958 and finally broken up in Japan in 1959.
