The armament of the new German battleships according to the Dutch magazine Marineblad dated 1937 No. 3


An item referred to the Proceedings dated February 1937 reported that the new German battleships were to be armed with 2x4 submerged torpedo tubes. The two catapults were to launched the 4 planes carried on board. Amidships was the thickness of the armour to be maximum 30cm/11.8” sloping to fore and aft respectively to 12,5cm/4.9” respectively 10cm/3.9”. The main gun turrets were protected by 15/5.9” minimum)-35,6cm/14” and the secondary gun turrets by 5cm/1.9”-15cm/4.9’. The horizontal protection consisted of 2 armour decks one of 11,2cm/4.4” and one of 5cm/1.9”.(1)
