German prisoners of war training Russian sailors how to handle former German torpedo boats according to a CIA report dated 20 September 1947

An item reported that German prisoners of war held captive in a camp at Azov Bataysk trained during six months Soviet naval personnel how to handle former German repaired torpedo boats. Rumours claimed that there were more men trained than needed and that they were to be sent towards Poti. They were a quick release promised but at the end only sick men were actually released. The shipyards at Rostov had by the end of May 1947 80 torpedo boats built similar to the German type. A boat was within five weeks built and it was possible to have four boats at the same time under construction. The building seemed to be continued after May but the shipyards were however not enlarged to increase the production to more boats. Their length was 18 metres. The armament consisted of 2 torpedo tubes (1 starboard, 1 x port) and furthermore 1-2cm quick firing anti aircraft machinegun. Machine plants at Kharkov and Nikolayev produced parts for the diesel engines. The crew numbered 15 men.
