British battleship HMS Triumph torpedoed and sunk according to the Dutch newspaper Limburger koerier dated 26 May 1915

An item dated Constantinople, Turkey 25 May reported that the British battleship HMS Triumph was torpedoed and sunk in the Bay of Saros. (1) She was described a 11.800 tons battleship built in 1903, with a crew numbering 700 men and a main and secondary armament of respectively 4x24.5 and 14x19cm guns. She was regularly involved involved in the operations against the Dardanelles. The Dutch newspaper De Tijd dated 27 May confirmed the news of her loss although calling her a cruiser adding that the main part of her crew was saved.

1. Building ordered by Chile in 1901, laid down as the Libertad by Vickers, Sons&Maxim, Barrow-in-Furness, England on 26 February 1902, launched on  15 January 1903, sold to the United Kingdom on 3 December 1903, completed in June 1904. commissioned on  21 June 1904 and torpedoed/sunk by the German submarine U-21 on 25 May 1915 off Gaba Tepe. Of the Swiftsure-class pre-dreadnought battleships, preceded by King Edward VII class and succeeded by Lord Nelson class, armament of 2x2-25.4cm/10” breech loading Mk VII guns and 14x1-19.1cm/7.5” breech loading Mk II guns.
