Japanese cargo ship (ex-Kirishima Maru 1930-1938) Kirisima Maru 1938-1943

Call sign JGIC. Laid down by Kawasaki Dockyard Co.Ltd., Kobe, Japan on 6 August 1930, launched on 3 April 1931, completed on 5 July 1931, requisitioned by the navy as transport on 30 October 1941, converted into an auxiliary transport between 17-24 November 1941, torpedoed and sunk by the American submarine USS Bowfin (SS-287) in the South China Sea on 25 September 1943 and stricken on 1 December 1943. Gross tonnage 8,121 tons, under deck 7,671 tons, net tonnage 5,918 tons and as dimensions 442.9 x 59.7 x 40.0 x 11.6 (light)-27 (loaded) feet. Oil fuelled diesel propuslion, single screw, oil bunker capacity including deep tanks 2,900 tons, 814 nhp, range 38,000 nautical miles/15.5 knots, speed 15.5 (normal) cruising)-20 (maximum) knots, 104 rpm/18 knots, 113 rpm/19 knots/123 rpm/20 knots.
