Frankfurt, 18 September. The latest letters from Venice reported that the Greek admiral Canaris as ordered by the Admiralty at Hydra with a large squadron consisting of ships from Hydra and Ipsara departed to watch the Egyptian fleet commanded by Ismail Gibraltar. The Greek squadron consisted of the best ships with well trained crews. The fact that the Egyptian fleet included many transports it was hoped that the Greek admiral succeeded in destroying at least a part of this transports. For this purpose the Greeks took a large number of fire ships with them. The Greek ships commanded by admiral Miaulis were ordered to watch the fleet commanded by the Captain Pasha and to thwart her as much as possible. His squadron however was too weak for an attack. From Mitylene came tidings that the Turkish fleet departed there 24 July towards Tschesme.
