British battleship HMS Collingwood 1880-1909

Of the Admiral-class, preceded by Colossus-class, succeeded by Victoria-class, by Sir Nathaniel Barnaby as a response on the French Aniral Baudin-class. Laid down by Pembroke Dockyard on 12 July 1880, launched on 22 November 1882, completed in July 1887 and sold to Hughes Bolckow, Dunston to be broken up on 11 May 1909. Displacement 9,700 tons and as dimensions 99,1 (between perpendiculars) x 20,7 x 8,2 metres or 325 x 68 x 26.11 feet. The machinery consisted of 2 Humphreys compound-expansion steam engines delivering via 2 screws 7.000 (normal)-9,600 (forced draught) ihp allowing a speed of 16,8 knots (forced) draught and a range of 8,400 nautical miles with a speed of 10 knots. Her crew numbered 498 men. Armament consisted of 2x2-30,5cm.12” breech Mk II loading guns, 6x1-15,2cm/6” Mk IV breech loading guns, 12x1-5,7cm/2.2”/6pd quick firing Hotchkiss guns, 8x1-4,7cm/1.9”/3 pd quick firing Hotchkiss guns and 4-35,6cm.14” torpedo tubes (a pair on each broadside). The armour consisted of a waterline belt thick 20,3cm/8"-45,7cm/18", a 5,1cm/2"-7,6cm/3" thick deck, 17,8cm/7"-40,6cm/16" thick bulkheads and the barbettes and conning tower protected by respectively 25,4cm/10"-29,2cm/11.5" and 5,1cm/2"-30,5cm.12" armour.
