A deed dated 24 April 1658 (notary Lambert Adriaensz Schorel nr. 489) mentioned that merchant Pieter Pietersz Josephs on behalf of his company hired from her master the ship de Liefde with as dimensions 123 x 25.5 x 12 (hold) and 4.5 (above) feet for ƒ 2.000 to be used as a Greenland whaler.
