The Egyptian, Greek and Turkish navies in the Mediterranean according to the Nederlandsche Staatscourant dated 19 November 1824

The Hague, 18 November. According to a news item dated Vienna 6 November earlier published in French and German newspapers was the return of the Captain Pasha in the Dardanelles confirmed by the newspaper Beobachter. Also was confirmed that a main part of the Turkish fleet was destroyed in the night of 6-7October between Mitylene and Scio. What happened with the Egyptian fleet was 14 October still unknown at Constantinople. According to semi official tidings wouldn’t leave the Turkish fleet that year the harbour anymore. Tidings from Constantinople dated 12 October reported that the Captain Pasha and the Egyptian admiral tried 4 times without any success to land at Samos and that in the mean time due to a terrific storm many ships were lost and all most any of the remaining damaged. Both fleets anchored 6 October between Scio and Tschisme, while a squadron of 8 ships was off Samos. This latter squadron was unexpectedly attacked by two Greek divisions with their fire ships. Despite the fact that the Turkish immediately cut their cordages were 3 frigates and some other vessels burned. The Captain Pasha fled on board of small vessel towards Mitylene and Ibrahim pasha departed towards Candia.
