Marine Rundschau stated April 1938 reporting that the American naval air force at Guam was to be strengthened with the group VP 18, the first time that a group was stationed over there. Group VP 18 consisted of 15-12 tons float planes, commissioned in 1936 with a length of 19 metres and 31,75 metres span, able to spent 25 hours in the air and with a maximum speed of 270 kilometres. Loaded with one ton of bombs was the range 3.000 kilometres. Total personnel strength of the group was 10 officers, 10 aspirant officers and 100 men.
