British protected cruiser HMS Psyche visited the Dutch East Indies in 1905

Pearl-class

An item reported that the British cruiser HMS Psyche (1) visited Tandjong Priok, Dutch East Indies on 4 October 1905 and 20 November-7 December 1905.(2)

Notes
1. Part of the Pearl 3rd class cruisers consisting of the Pearl, Pandora, Pallas, Pelorus, Persian, Philomel, Phoebe, Phoenix and Psyche, preceded by the Barham-class and succeeded by the Apollo-class. Designed by Sir William White (2 February 1845 Plymouth, Devon, England-27 February 1913 London, England). Launched by J.&G, Thomson, Glasgow, Scotland as Psyche on 10 December 1889, renamed Ringaroona as part of the Auxiliary Squadron of the Australia Station on 2 April 1890, reserve between 1897-1900, departed from the Australia Station on 22 August 1904 and sold for 8.500 pound sterling to the Forth Shipbreaking Company to be broken up in May 1906.
2. The Dutch newspaper Soerabaijasch handelsblad dated Tuesday 21 November 1905 referred to another newspaper Javabode reporting the expected arrival on next Saturday of the Psyche and Pyramus at Tandjong Priok. The newspaper Het nieuws van den dag voor Nederlandsch-Indië dated 5 October 1905 published an item dated Batavia 5th reporting the arrival of the HMS Psyche and the Mildura at Tandjong Priok. The Psyche was described as an protected cruiser of 2.170 tons armed with 8-10cm quick firing guns, 8-4,7cm quick firing guns and 3 machineguns. The Mildura was not identified bu the reporter. He wrote that she was not mentioned on the British naval list.
