Hulk of American cruiser USS Augusta sold according to the Treaty bulletin No. 1 dated 30 September 1930

An item reported that the Japanese Minister for Foreign Affairs informed on 30 August 1930 by note the American Chargé d'Affaires ad interim at Tokyo, Japan that Japan did not object against the proposed purchase by the Powell River Company Ltd., British Columbia from the General Salvage Company of Seattle, Washington, USA of the hulk of the former cruiser USS Charlestown. The latter company bought the hulk from the US Navy.(1)

1. Part of St. Louis-class protected cruisers preceded by Denver-class succeeded by Chester-class. Ordered on 7 June 1900, awarded on 30 March 1901, laid down by Newport News Shipbuilding and Dry Dock Company, Newport News, Virginia, USA on 30 January 1902, launched on 23 January 1904, commissioned on 17 October 1905, decommissioned on 4 December 1923, sold to be broken up on 6 March 1930. Became a floating breakwater in 1930 at the Powell River, towed in 1961 to Kelsey Bya, Vancouver Island, Canada. In 2004 still visible.
