Australian warships visiting Malta according to the Dutch newspaper Bataviaasch nieuwsblad dated 1 May 1919

An item reported that the battleship Australia (1) with the Sydney and Platypus and the 6 Australian submarines (4) arrived at Malta.

Notes

1. Indefatigable-class battle cruiser, preceded by Invincible-class succeeded by Lion-class. Ordered on 9 December 1909, laid down by John Brown&Company, Clydebank, Scotland with yard number 402 on 26 June 1910, launched on 25 October 1911, commissioned on 21 June 1913, decommissioned on 12 December 1921 and scuttled on 12 April 1924.

2. Part of Town-class light cruiser succeeded by Hawkins-class. Laid down by London and Glasgow Engineering and Iron Shipbuilding Company on 11 February 1911, launched on 29 August 1912, commissioned on 26 June 1913, decommissioned on 8 May 1828 and broken up in 1929.

3. Submarine and depot ship. Laid down by John Brown and Company, Clydebank, Scotland on 14 October 1914, launched on 28 October 1916, commissioned on 21 March 1917, decommissioned in 1919, commissioned in the Royal Australian Navy on 25 March 1919, renamed HMAS Penguin 1929, renamed HMAS Platypus in 1941, decommissioned on 13 May 1946, part of reserve, stricken on 20 Feburary 1958 and sold to be broken up.

4. Part of J-class, namely J1-5 and J7.
