British steam tanker Donnacilla underway from Romania towards Gibraltar according to a letter of the German naval attaché at Istanbul dated 2 December 1939

In his letter dated Istanbul, Turkey 2 December 1939 No. 491 g. reported the German naval attaché to the Oberkommando der Wehrmacht Abteilung Ausland the ships passing Istanbul coming out of the Black Sea and loaded with contraband for the enemy. An item mentioned the British steam tanker Donnacilla on 30 November, not mentioned in Lloyd’s Register with 10,000 ton petrol underway from Constanta, Romania towards Gibraltar for orders. Destination England, harbour unknown. Armed with 1 gun on the stern and 1 on the bow and a light anti aircraft gun on the bridge. Showed the Red Ensign.
