German pocket battleship Deutschland on short notice completed according to the Dutch newspaper Soerabaijasch handelsblad dated 29 April 1931

An item dated Berlin, Germany 28 April reported that all preparations for the christening ceremony by president Von Hindenburg on 19 May at 12.00 o’clock of the first German pocket battleship were completed. She was to replace the dreadnought Preussen. It was yet unknown how she was to be named, suspected was Hindenburg but the was the president his decision so she could easily be named Preussen. (1) The complete German fleet was to gather at Kiel. After the manoeuvres was a revue planned in the presence of the president on board of the cruiser Königsberg.

1. Deutschland-class panzerschiffe or heavy cruisers succeeded by realized Admiral Hipper-class and planned D-class. The first one was the Deutschland, ordered as Ersatz Preussen, laid down by Duetsche Werke, Kiel, Germany on 5 Feburary 1919, launched on 19 May 1931, commissioned on 1 April 1933, renamed Lützow in January 1940 and sunk as a target by Russians in the Baltic Sea off Swinoujscie, Poland on 22 July 1947.
