Harbour of Malta blockaded by ships which were to be examined according to a letter of the German naval attaché at Istanbul dated 2 December 1939

In his letter dated Istanbul, Turkey 2 December 1939 No. 491 g. reported the German naval attaché to the Oberkommando der Wehrmacht Abteilung Ausland that according to a statement of steamship masters the harbour of Malta was blocked by the large number of ships brought in to be examined. The British authorities seemed to be interested in using a French Nordafrican harbour as control station. The warehouses at Malta were packed by the forces unloading of cargoes of neutral steamships.
