British cruiser HMS Orion visited Alexandria, Egypt according to a letter of the German naval attaché dated 24 December 1940

In his letter dated Istanbul, Turkey 24 December 1940 No. 1584 g. reported the German naval attaché to the Oberkommando der Kriegsmarine at Berlin the movements of ships of the British Royal Navy at Alexandria, Egypt between 1 October-30 November 1940. The intelligence was not 100% reliable he wrote. An item reported the British cruiser HMS Orion between 1 October-30 November 1940.

1. Part of Leander-class preceded by Emerald-class succeeded by Arethusa-class. Pennant 85. Laid down by Devonport Dockyard/Vickers Armstrong, Barrow-in-Furness, England on 26 September 1941, launched on 24 November 1932, commissioned on 18 January 1934, decommissioned in 1946 and sold to be broken up on 19 July 1949.
