Japanese cargo ship (ex-Georgia 1908-1924, Georgia C 1924-1926, Hasshu Maru 9126-1929) Daigen Maru No. 3 1929-1944

Similar Daigen Maru No.3, Syunsei Maru and Wakatu Maru, although the latter with a raked funnel. Call sign JHJB. Launched by Russell&Co., Kingston Yard, Port Glasgow, Scotland with yard number 587 on 27 July 1908, completed in September 1908 and torpedoed and sunk by the American submarine USS Gat about 200 miles north of Kaap d’Urville, Dutch New Guinea on 26 February 1944. Gross tonnage 4,000 tons, under deck 4,462 tons, net tonnage 4,042 tons and as dimensions 7.6 (light)-24.6 (loaded) feet. Reciprocating propulsion. Horsepower 502 nhp. Range 12,000 nautical miles/9.5 knots and speed 9.5 (normal cruising)-11 (maximum) knots. Coal bunker capacity 1,600 tons. Single screw.
