An item reported that the Japanese naval force at Davao, Philippines attacked by US Army bombers [Summary No. 27] numbered 1 battleship, 5 cruisers, 6 destroyers, 12 submarines and 12 transports. The battleship received 3 direct hits with 600 lb bombs, several destroyers were sunk and other vessels hit. The J.I.C. commented that the Japanese naval force earlier present at Tutu Bay, Jolo moved to Davao and believed that due to the large concentration her success was even larger than reported on 6 January when was said a hit on the battleship and a destroyer sunk. A Japanese broadcast from Tokyo admitted that a Japanese submarine was lost in the Pacific and a cruiser slightly damaged. The latter during the attack at Davao although still avaible for service.
