American design of a proposed flight deck cruiser dated 19 December 1939

The design was made for the General Board for the last effort to developed such type of ship but never built. Displacement 12,000 (standard)-14,220 (trial) tons and as dimensions 640 (waterline) x 67 (waterline) x 21.8 feet. Geared turbine propulsion with 2 boiler rooms, maximum speed 33 knots with 100,000 ship and range 10,000 nautical miles/15 knots. Armament consisted of 1x3-8” cal 55 guns, 8-5” cal 38 dual purpose guns, 8-0.50” anti aircraft machine guns and 24-36 aircraft. The armour consisted of a main side belt of 5” on 25” depth below the waterline 5’. Protective deck 2.25”. Main deck (bomb) 40’”. Turret (8.0 (face)-3.75/15 (sides)-3.0 (top)-1.5 (rear). Armored pilot house 2.5 (sides)-5.0 (top)-40 (tube). Control spaces 40, 5” twin mounts 30 and 5” handling rooms 30.
