British design of a cuppola whaleback shaped warship around 1860-1870


National Maritime Museum, Greenwich, London, England

Creator unknown. Armed with 12 guns. Guns mounted in cupolas along the broadside. The whaleback shape was presumably to deflect incoming shot as well providing a watertight hul. of shallow draught and fitted with bilge keels. Probably to serve in sheltered waters
