In his letter No. 1261 dated Lisbon 17 September 1941 reported the German naval attaché in Portugal to the Oberkommando der Kriegsmarine at Berlin the arrival of the British 1,200 tons gunboat HMS Egret L75 at Ponte Delgada, São Miguel, Azores at 07:00 o’clock on 15 September coming from Gibraltar.(1) After loading 160 ton oil she departed in de the night of 16 September. Her normal task was surveillance off the Portuguese coast, usually visiting Lagos, Nigeria.

1. Part of Egret-class sloops preceded by Bittern-class succeeded by Black Swan-class, laid down under the 1936 construction programme by J. Samuel White, Cowes, Isle of Man on 21 September 1937, launched on 31 May 1938, commissioned on 11 November 1938 and sunk in a German air attack in the Bay of Biscay on 27 August 1943.
