French armoured cruiser Dupetit Thouars 1899-1918


Belonged to the Gueydon-class with as sister ships the Gueydon and Montcalm. She was laid down at Toulon in April 1899, launched in July 1901, completed in 1905 and torpedoed by the German submarine U 62 off Brest on 7 August 1918.

With a displacement of 9,367 tons were her dimensions 452 x 63’7”c 25’2”(maximum). The vertical triple expansions engines and 28 Belleville boilers supplied 22,o00 ihp allowing a speed of 22 knots. The crew numbered 566 men. The armament consisted of 2x1-7.6” guns, 8-6.4” quick firing guns, 4-3.9’ guns, 16-3pdrs, 4-1pdrs and 2-18” torpedo tubes. The armour consisted of a 1.6-6” belt, 8”gun turrets, 4.7’ casemates while the conning tower was protected by 6’3”.
