The navies of Brazil, Buenos Ayres and Uruguay according to the Dutch newspaper Nederlandsche Staatscourant dated 12 February 1842

According to extra ordinary tidings from Rio Janeiro dated until 24 December [1841] feared men there a few days ago for a war situation between Brazil and the so-called Oriental republic of Uruguay with a result a Brazilian blockade of Montevideo. Something which couldn’t be prevented while the navy of Uruguay commanded by a certain colonel Coe just 4 ships numbered, a 18-gun corvette, two barks one of 26 and of 18 guns and a 18-gun brig. This republic was at that time all ready in war with Buenos Ayres. So it was possible that the Argentinean squadron consisting of a corvette, 3 brigs, 2 schooner brigs and a schooner commanded by the well known admiral Brown would join the Brazilian squadron blockading the whole coast of Uruguay. The Imperial or Brazilian force in the waters of Montevideo consisted of one corvette and two schooner brigs, but in haste were two corvettes already lying on the roads for departure prepared while another corvette and 2 brigs were fitted out. Preparations were started to fit out a frigate while a second frigate had departed with an unknown destination according to rumours to train the midshipmen.
