Venetian navy versus Russian privateers according to the Dutch newspaper Ommelander Courant dated 18 November 1788

Italy, 21 October. The Venetian fleet commanded by knight Emo stopped in mid September off the island Cerigo seven Russian privateers, seized their Imperial letters de marque and brought them to Zante. The privateers took away in Soria a Venetian merchant ship master Lorgi Causini while she had on board 7 Turkish from Candia with their merchandise. They brought her to Cerigo robbed the merchandise while trying to force the Venetian master to pay for it. The Venetian commanding officer released the ship, crew and stores while the privateers had to pay 4,000 piasters as compensation for what they had done.
