US Navy established large number shore and aircraft bases in Europe during the First World War

An item reported that in the First World War the US Navy established and operated 9 shore bases with as main task supporting cruising ships and 35 aircraftbases in England, Ireland, France and Italy from where aircrafy attacked enemy submarine bases and patrolled above sea protecting convoys against submarines
