Japanese cargo ship (ex-Etna Maru 1919-1929) Taibun Maru 1929-1943

Call sign JEND. Sister ships Argun Maru and Taibun Maru. Laid down by Osaka Iron Works Ld., Osaka, Japan in end 1919, launched in 1920, completed in May 1920, requisitioned by the army became Allotted JJA No. 382 on 27 November 1941, returned to owners and served as merchant ship again on 17 July 1942 and torpedoed and sunk by the American submarine USS Halibut (SS-232) off Cape Choshi on 30 August 1943. Gross tonnage 6,581tons, under deck 6,111 tons, net tonnage 4,099 tons, deadweight 10,80 tons and as dimensions 415.0 x 55.5 x 34.6 x 8.6 (light)-28 (loaded) feet. Reciprocating propulsion, single screw, 552 nhp, coal bunker capacity 1,400 tons, range 10,000 nautical miles/9.5 knots and speed 9.5 (normal cruising)1.3 (maximum)knots.
