Dutch destroyer Hr.Ms. Jakhals temporarily grounded according to the Dutch newspaper De Sumatra Post dated 15 March 1920

An item dated Weltevreden, Dutch East Indies 15th reported that the Dutch destroyer Hr.Ms. Jakhals on the Friday before was grounded in Sunda Strait. The ocean going tug De Jong tried fruitless the past 48 years to salvage her. The [Dutch destroyer Hr.Ms.] Bulhond was now also sent to support.(1)

Ordered on 1 August 1910, Laid down by Kon.Mij De Schelde, Vlissingen with yard number 141 on 16 March 1911, launched on 20 January 1912, trial on 23 May 1912, delivered on 24 July 1912, still active in April 1928, stricken between 1928-1929. The Soerabaijasch handelsblad dated 6 May 1931 reported that she was destroyed in the week before two groups of Dutch bombers as a training target. This is confirmed by the De Indische courant dated 24 April reporting that she in the morning of the day before between 7-11 o´clock was used as a target by six bombers south of the eiland Sepoedi in Bali Strait while towed connected to a towline with a length of 1 kilometre.
