Danish navy tender Hjaelperen (1945) 1953-1976


Laid down at the Brown Shipbuilding Company at Houston, Texas, United States 17 March 1945 as the US landing ship LSM-500, launched 7 April 1945, rebuilt in 1953 at the American Navy ship yard at Charleston in 1953 and transferred the same year to Denmark, where she was commissioned in the Royal Danish Navy 15 May and decommissioned in August 1974. In the years 1966-1967 and 1971-1972 modernized. Presumably broken up after 1979. Her pennant number was A563 with as international call sign OUGC.

With a displacement of 1.030 tons were her dimensions 64,26 x 10,92 x 2,41 (fore)-1,98(aft) meter. The 2 GMC Cleveland diesel engines provided 2,880 allowing a speed of 12,33 knots and a range of 3,500 nautical miles. The crew numbered in Danish service 102 men including 10 officers. The armament consisted original of 2x2-40mm machine guns replaced in 1958 by 2x1-40mm machine guns.
