Harbour of Rangoon, Burma closed according to the U.S. Joint Intelligence Committee. Daily summary dated 25 January 1942

An item reported that the harbour of Rangoon, Burma was closed since two ships were sunk off the mouths of the Irawaddy river by a Japanse submarine of surface raider. Five American ships lying in the harbour were waiting for an outward bound convoy. The J.I.C. commented that the Japanese now were able to maintain out of Tavoy a submarine blockade of the Gulf of Martaban.
