Ordered on 4 October 1861, laid down by Continental Iron Works, Greenpoint, Brooklyn, USA on 25 October 1861, launched on 30 January 1862, commissioned on 25 February 1862, lost at sea due to a storm off Cape Hatteras, North Carolina, USA on 31 December 1862 and wreck found back on 27 August 1973.
