Dutch warships Zr. Ms. Gedeh and the Ajax underway from Nieuwdediep towards Vlissingen, Netherlands according to the Dutch newspaper Middelburgsche Courant dated 31 July 1851

An item dated Middelburg, Netherlands 30th reported that on last Sunday around 18.00 o’clock the steamship Zr. Ms. Gedeh (1) captain lieutenant A.J. de Smit van den Broecke and corvette Zr. Ms. Ajax captain J.P. Woutersz left the Nieuwediep, Netherlands towards Vlissingen, Netherlands with midshipmen on board. Both ships arrived that morning off Vlissingen.

Paddle steamship 1st class, first called steam warship, on stocks at the navy yard at Rotterdam, Netherlands 25 October 1846, launched 26 April 1850, commissioned 16 April 1851, docked at the navy yard at Hellevoetsluis, Netherlands 13-30 January 1857, in worse condition in , laid up at Surabaya and sold at the navy establishment on Saturday 29 November to be broken up 1862, served also in the Dutch East Indies, dimensions 56.00 (between perpendiculars) x 10.70 x 4.80 metres, displacement of 1.486 tons, an armament of 8 guns and 300 hp horsepower.
2. ‘Kuil’corvette, laid down by P. Glavimans Jz. at the navy yard of Rotterdam, Netherlands on 13 October 1828, launched on 13 June 1832, guard ship, stricken and sold in 1870, dimensions 36,5 (between perpendiculars)-10,0 (inner hull) x 4,24 (fore)-4,82 (fore) x 5,39 (hold below upperdeck) , a displacement of 775 tons and an armament of 28 guns( 20-12pd guns or 20-30pd carronades on main deck, 8-12pd carronades and 2-6pd guns.
