The Dutch war steamboats Zr.Ms. Hekla and Etna in the Dutch East Indies according to the Nederlandsche Staatscourant dated 6 July 1838

The Dutch newspaper Avondbode reported that the two iron steamboats Hekla and Etna which were not so long ago send in parts to the Dutch East Indies were put together at Surabaya. The Etna performed really well ad did not the Hekla who didn’t fulfill the expectations, despite both ships were of the same design. The Hekla was to serve along the North Coast of Java to cruise against the pirates and it was hoped that in the meantime the defects were discovered.
