New French battleships according to the Dutch newspaper Het nieuws van den dag voor Nederlandsch-Indië daily edition dated 3 May 1915


The Lorraine

The French newspaper Matin reported that in March the trials of the new French battleships Bretagne and Provence found place. Both ships were laid down an the navy yards at Brest and Lorient on 5 May 1912. They seemed to have been in a hurry while both ships have to be completed not earlier as in May of next year. The ships were armed with 5x2-34cm guns, armoured with a 27cm thick belt, a displacement of 23.500 ton and a contracted speed of 20 knots. The trial of their sister ship Lorraine which was three months later laid down at St. Nazaire was expected to be in mid June.
