Algerian, French, Greek and Turkish navies in the Mediterranean according to the Nederlandsche Staatscourant dated 19 January 1826

Algiers. 2 December 1825. Our government fitted out a corvette, a brig and a schooner to break the blockade by some Greek ships since 2 months. In the advance there were 3, later 7 Greek ships. Yesterday our ships departed to attack the strongest pirates who immediately disappeared. A French bomb galliot already waiting for a month to depart but stayed fearing a ‘bad meeting’ immediately departed towards Livorno.

Smyrna, 2 January. Although there hadn’t been a real fight between the Captain Pasha and the Greek admiral Miaulis, the Greeks had some success due to the not experienced Turkish, when they were cut of by a Greek division. Several Turkish corvettes and brigs were captured by the Greeks and one frigate was burnt. The Captain Pasha punished severe the commanding officers of some warships which didn’t obey his orders.
