According to the local newspaper Leeuwarder Courant dated 30 september 1797 was de Dutch privateer Ondeelbaarheid, commanded by captain C. Monkenberg, when departing for sea by a British 18 guns brig droven backwards to the beach or even on the beach of the island Vlieland. In the fight the Ondeelbaarheid was hit 3 times serioulsy and when 1 men killed and 2 wounded, 33 men surrendered while 13 others escaped with the boat on the shore of Vlieland
