German warships available for Arctic expedition according to the Dutch newspaper Schiedamsche Courant dated 26 February 1866

According to this newspaper was captain Werner who was to command the new discovery voyage to the Arctic recently ordered to inform personally the Prussian king. According to a well informed source was the earlier plan to supply the Prussian screw steam corvette Medusa for this expedition given up but were now the recently at Danzig built gunboats 1st class Meteor and Drache available. These boats fitted out with excellent engines of the British plant Pen&Son were to depart within short time to Hamburg where the expedition was fitted out. The iron plating of the prows of these boats was to be considerable strengthened. Their crew would partly consist of volunteers from the royal navy and sailors from the Hamburg merchant trade shipping. The expedition was to start from Hamburg in April.
