British cargo vessel Africa Palm (1971) 1974-1984 (1998)

Launched on 18 November 1971 as the Joruna at the yard of VEB Warnewerft/Warnow-Werft, Warnemunde, East Germany with building no. 376 for account of the Norwegian Solstad’s Reder. She was however never delivered to this company but in 1972 handed over to Johansen&Knutsen of Oslo, Norway which sold her in 1974 to the Palm Line renamed Africa Palm. In 1983 while chartered temporarily renamed Santa Barbara Pacific. A year later sold to the Europe Maritiem Limited at Cyprus and became the Messaria. In 1987 again sold and as the Tong Zhou owned by the Chinese Shanghai Jun Jiang Shipping Corporation Limited. Apparently she was in that time owned by the Cypriote Kirunas Shipping Company Limited. The Chinese owners sold her in 1995 to the Brilliant Shipping Pte. Limited of Singapore and she became the Brilliant to be renamed two years later Luxury. Around 1997-1998 stricken from Lloyds registry.

Tonnage as open/closed shelter Decker was the gross tonnage 6,209/10,008 tons, net tonnage 2,957/5,451 tons and deadweight 10,099/14,067 tons and as dimensions 146,7 (between perpendiculars)-152,9 x 20,x2 x 7,6-4,9 and a hold of 11,9 metres. Cargo capacity 400 TEU’s. The 2 SA MAN diesels supplied 11,200 bhp allowing a speed of 18,5 knots.
