The Egyptian navy according to the Dutch newspaper Vlissingse Courant dated 7 April 1836

The Egyptian navy possessed 8 ships of the line, namely 2 of 134 guns named Misr and Akka, 4 of 100 guns named Homs, Beyland, Mahallet et Kobra and Macouira, 1 of 96 guns named Iskanderia, 1 of 82 guns named Abukir, 6 frigates (1-62 guns, 1-60 guns, 1-54 guns, 3-30 guns), 4 corvettes of 22-24 guns and 7 brigs of 14-18 guns, totally 1316 guns and 12.000 sailors. This total was exclusive the squadron in the Read Sea, which consisted of 2-3 corvettes and some brigs. The building of this squadron was ordered by the Pacha, since Bilmas Turkí in 1832 the whole squadron take away from the harbour of Dschedda.
