Florence, 23 April. According to rumours was a 60-gun Russian warship with a crew of 500 men lost between Cape St. Catharina and Palozo with just a few survivors. According to some rumours left a French squadron in haste Toulon towards Algiers to demand satisfaction for the actions of the Dey against the French consul. The squadron consisted of 2 ships of the line, 2 frigates and 3 bomb galliots. The Venetian government ordered to fit out as soon as possible 6 ships of the line, 8 frigates, 12 galleys and 18 chaloupes and to sent these to the Levant as reaction on the Russian landing at Morea. The Russians joined immediately after the landing the Greeks. The governors of the pontifical harbours were ordered to allow the Russian warships to enter the harbour and to provide them with all needed stores against cash payment.
