Movements of the Greeks and Turkish navies in September 1821 according to the Dutch newspaper Goessche Courant dated 17 September 1821

The admiralty of Hydra stated officially wrote to her provisional government that she won a battle against a Turkish fleet off the island Samos. The Turkish fleet with a strength of 4 ships of the line, 5 frigates, 4 corvettes and 30 vessels of different sizes, left the Dardanelles 12 July and sailed via the island Chios towards Scala Nuova. There was a large number of troops, coming from Minor Asia, taken on board en transported to the island Samos. Those Turkish troops with strength of 13.000 men were however with a severe loss driven back by the inhabitants and forced to go on board again.
