Paris, 19 April. According to a letter of the Portuguese consul at Gibraltar dated 9 march consisted the in the Strait stationed Portuguese division of the frigates Perla (1), Amazona (2) and Venus (3) and the brig Constance (4) were blockading two Tunisian war vessels namely a corvette and a schooner in the bay. The other two Tunisian war vessels namely a brig and a schooner which formed with the two blockaded ships a division stayed hidden. Probably they were destined to make a cruising voyage.
Lisbon, 11 March. The Portuguese merchants of Gibraltar Cergueira de Carvalho and Andreade da Silva bought a chebecq which was fitted out at their expenses to join the Portuguese squadron. The commanding officer of the this squadron accepted the gift and named her Goede Portugees [Dutch translation of the original name who probably sounds like Bom Português.(5)
