French naval strength according to Dutch newspapers in 1851

The newspaper Nederlander dated 28 May published an item reporting that the French navy consisted of 6-120 ships of the line, 4-100 gun ships of the line , 9-82/90 gun sips of the line, 6-80 gun ships of the line, 12-60 gun frigates, 14-50/52 gun frigates, 11-40/46 gun frigates, 30 corvettes, 44 brigs, 43 smaller armed vessels and 32 transports. Further more were of steamships available 1-90 gun ship of the line with 960 hp, 20 frigates of 450-650 hp, 5 corvettes of 320-450 hp, 22 corvettes of 220-300 hp an 57 smaller steamships. Shipyards were at that moment building 49 sailing vessels and 8 steam vessels. Other newspapers Bredasche Courant dated 25 May, De Brabander dated 27 May, De Curaçaosche Courant dated 23 August and Nieuwe Rotterdamsche Courant dated 24 May confirmed this item, the latter three adding that the yards at Cherbourg were building 8 warships (5 sail, 3 steam).
