German navy and airships according to the Dutch newspaper Het nieuws van den dag: kleine courant dated 18 January 1909

This newspaper reported that the according to the magazine De Auto the German government ordered 4 Zeppelins for disposal of the navy. There was a third auto balloon type Gross to be built and which was much larger as the Gross II. The German military authorities asked the main engineers to come with plans for airships which could be used as cruisers. The principal design conditions were a medium speed of 50 kilometres during 15 hours with 6 passengers and a medium weight of 75 kilo, an altitude of 2,000 metres, total volume of 6,500M3, a diameter of 13 metres, a height of 20 metres and a length of 90 metres.
