An item dated Mexico City 9 May reported that in contrary to the rumours at Washington not dr. Hjalmar Schacht himself but just his son was in Mexico busy with negotiations for Germany delivering tankers and exchange Mexico delivering oil. The newspaper De Sumatra Post dated 12 May confirmed this item.

Dr. Hjalmar Horace Greeley Schacht (22 January 1877 Tingleff, Schleswig-Holstein-3 June 1970 Munich) was an economist, banker, liberal politician and a strong opponent of the post-First World War reparation obligations of his country Germany. At first he was a supporter of Adolf Hitler as became president of the Reichsbank and minister of economics (August 1934-November 1937) until he collided with Hitler and other prominent Nazis in December 1937. He remained still president of Reichsbank until his dismissal in January 1939. Later he was even arrested as member of the German resistance.
